Fighting the Cultists

This is another digital artwork I created with Adobe Photoshop in which I was creating a fantasy scene from scratch without using the reference photographs I usually use.

The idea in it comes from Lovecraft’s Cthulhu series in which different protagonists investigate an unusual occurrence and come across cultist groups trying to awake ancient incredibly powerful gods whose arrival seems unstoppable and whose immanence would inevitably lead to destruction of this plane of existence.

One challenge in paintings of Lovecraft’s elder gods is that they are supposedly impossible to describe and different artists have tried various approaches to representing them.
