Ian Fleming
I am a full time artist mainly focusing on painting landscapes and the occasional portrait but also using my painting techniques to create digital art and virtual reality environments.
I am not interested in using art as a vehicle for political or activist purposes but make art for art’s sake (and to make a living). I hope other people enjoy looking at my art as much as I enjoy making it.
I work from my studio/family-home in the bush near Gundaroo about 40km from Canberra and most of my paintings draw inspiration from the surrounding countryside. Most of my oil paintings are based on photos I have taken but much of the digital and VR is based on imagined creatures and environments.
I completed an honours degree in visual arts at the Australian National University and my major work involved researching and developing virtual reality environments with a painterly style, particularly focussed on the horror genre.
I love art galleries, movies and computer games and they have undoubtably influenced my work. I have listed some of my favourites.
Areas of Practice
The following are the key avenues I am currently employing to provide access to my work and skills. Additional approaches may also be considered. I also work in other artistic areas for my own enjoyment – such as painting Warhammer© miniatures.
For in-person or online appointments please fill in a contact sheet or contact me by instagram or email. See Contacts page for details.

Gallery Shows & Sales
Unfortunately a gallery exhibition of my work slated for March 2024 had to be shelved but the majority of my work is aimed at gallery shows or for sale in art galleries or similar venues.
02
Commissioned works
I have carried out a number of artistic commissions in oil, digital media and virtual reality including portraits, pet-portraits, album covers and animated videos.
I am happy to discuss possible commissions online or at my studio.
03
Art tutoring
I occasionally do some school tutoring and am happy to provide individual or small group in-person art tutoring especially in painting i with oils or various digital art and Virtual Reality applications. Pricing by negotiation. Mainly in Canberra and surrounding areas.
04
Art Competitions
I have not yet entered my works in any professional competitions but have identified several I will prepare works for in 2024 including landscape, still life and portraiture competitions.
05
Solo or Joint Shows
I am keen to hold a solo exhibition in 2024 and am also am open to proposals to participate in a joint show with other artists whose work is compatible.
06
Studio Sales
Much of the oil and digital work in my portfolio is available for sale. Please contact me if you are interested but good art is a luxury item and takes time, effort and training to create so does not come at budget prices.
My studio is my family home but works may be able to be inspected there by appointment.
The Team
Art and artists need to be organised, marketed, supported, guided, fed, laundered and cleaned up around. This is the team that does it for me.
