‘Astro’ exploring the dam

Astro is our year old Keeshund and loves dashing into the shallows around the edge of the dam.

He was a boy but had the operation. I originally titled this work ‘lost balls’ but we felt that was an in-joke and a little insensitive.

For those not in the know, the yellow balls are floats which suspend the intake from a pump we normally float on the dam to provide irrigation water to the gardens around the house but the rope which tethers the floats into the centre of the dam broke and dad has been too lazy to clean the intake of the inevitable mud and retie the float.

I love to paint cloudy overcast days, complex reflections on the water. The detail of grass and sticks is something I also spend lots of time on but to say I enjoy doing them is an exaggeration although I do enjoy the end result.
