As I was driving from Sutton to Gundaroo one rainy day, I saw this dead tree near the road with a really cool looking sky behind it and immediately pulled the car over to photograph it. Unfortunately, I had not checked the road shoulder and there was a deep ditch and I nearly toppled the car into it. Hence the title.
I had been painting some more up-beat colourful scenes lately and this marks a returning to my gloomy mood. It is very raw and expressive – although not as expressive as dad who was my passenger at the time.
A complex distant scenery with many different coloured trees and other features and interesting light interactions that drew me into adding lots of detail to express all of its different elements.
With so many feature elements I struggled to focus on any one for its title and ended up calling it what it was.
Painted on 12″x9″ canvas in oils. On sale at Sutton Village Gallery as part of my “Beyond the Front Gate” exhibition.
