From the Acropolis

Just as scenes in Paris from the Eiffel Tower are missing the city’s most recognisable feature, so Athens seen from the Acropolis is not not obviously Athens. I painted this from a photo I took on a trip in early January 2019, just as the first news of Covid was starting to come out of China and as much of NSW was covered by the smoke of myriad bushfires.

I was drawn to the image mainly by the ‘god rays’ but found I really don’t enjoy painting endless building blocks so am definitely steering clear of big cityscapes for some time.

Painted in oil on a 24″x18″ artists’ board.
